Breedlove Awarded Transatlantic Award at GLOBSEC Bratislava Forum

General (retd.) Phil Breedlove, distinguished professor in The Sam Nunn School of International Affairs and former NATO Supreme Allied Commander Europe, was a speaker at the GLOBSEC Bratislava Forum held on 17 – 19 May 2018.

In the New Days, New Threats: Adapting NATO’s Strategy session, General Breedlove spoke on the ‘Transatlantic Way Forward’ and at a VIP luncheon, General Breedlove presented “a challenging model by which the western nations can, and should, address Russian Hybrid Warfare.”  

The Forum also featured the presentation of the 2017 Transatlantic Award to General Breedlove by the leaders of Slovakia. The award is in recognition of his “tireless efforts at building bridges from America to Europe.” In his acceptance speech, General Breedlove passionately described that his “greatest joy in 39 years of service was to command the Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines of the United States, and the 28 nations of NATO.”

Tong Zhao, alumnus of the International Affairs, Science, and Technology doctoral program in The Sam Nunn School of International Affairs, and a fellow of the Nuclear Policy Programme at the Carnegie Tsinghua Center for Global Policy, Beijing, spoke on the panel of the Peace on Korean Peninsula: No Longer Out of Reach? session.

The GLOBSEC Bratislava Global Security Forum is a high-level annual event hosted by GLOBSEC, in Bratislava, Slovakia. The main goal of the security forum is to shape the global debate through research activities by connecting experts in politics, business, foreign and security policy.

The Sam Nunn School of International Affairs is part of the Georgia Tech Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts.
