Nunn School Ph.D. Student Publishes Op-ed on Semiconductor Shortage

Daniel Aum, Ph.D. student in the Sam Nunn School of International Affairs, published an opinion piece in the Atlanta Journal Constitution. The piece, co-authored with Christopher Lindbeck, an undergraduate computer science major and robotics and international affairs minor, is titled “Ways Ga. can help ease chip shortages.”

In the article, Aum and Lindbeck explain that we are in the midst of a global semiconductor shortage. Semiconductor chips are incredibly complicated to produce, and supply chain issues continue to extend the time it takes to make a chip, they said. The authors then go on to propose ways that Georgia can help remedy this shortage. They suggest assisting businesses in buying chips online, increasing STEM education to lead more students towards the semiconductor field, and attracting foreign investment for parts, among others.
