Current Job: Founding and Managing Partner of WestExec Advisors

Sergio Aguirre is the founding and managing partner of WestExec Advisors. Previously, he served as the associate vice president for International Affairs for PhRMA, as well as the chief of staff for the Department of State: United States Mission to the United Nations. Sergio also worked as Senator Tim Kaine’s (Democrat – VA) senior foreign policy advisor.

How did Tech and the Nunn School help you get where you are? 

A Nunn School career counselor recommended I apply for the Presidential Management Fellowship which was my avenue into the Department of Defense. 

What advice you would give current students at Tech as well as the Sam Nunn School specifically?

Be open to exploring a wide range of job opportunities, knowing that your first job will likely not be your ideal job. 

What is something that you got from studying International Affairs at Tech?

I had exposure to great professors; strong analytic training; and a great support system of faculty to help in my career search.
